Anthony Bourdain unwilling to roll with ‘neck cranking’ UFC commentator Joe Rogan

It’s no secret that Joe Rogan is a bona fide beast. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) color commentator owns a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), sports a background in kickboxing and Taekwondo, and has been first row for some of the very best fights in mixed martial arts (MMA) history.

Needless to say, the standup comedian could handle himself if push ever came to shove. And according to television personality and BJJ blue belt Anthony Bourdain, who has made an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Rogan is the last person you’ll ever want to roll with. Bourdain, 60, recently won a gold medal at the IBJJF New York Spring International Open Championship this past April (h/t Bloody Elbow).

“No. I’m not rolling with that guy, it hurts,” said Bourdain during a recent Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session with fans. “He does not roll light, he goes really really hard. He’s a neck cranker, by the way, and he’s got bowling balls for arms, no visible neck, and he only rolls with no gi.”

Rogan, 49, has been rolling with some of the best at Eddie Bravo’s 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu over the years and has even lent pointers on the mat to former UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw and former UFC lightweight Danny Castillo (watch here).

“So as much as I love the guy, I’ll do anything with him; shoot animals in the brain, canoe trip, hot tubbing, whatever,” added Bourdain. “But I’m not rolling with the guy.”

Remember, this is the same Joe Rogan who taught Georges St-Pierre the correct way to implement a turning side kick. Can we blame Bourdain here?
